Building The Frames
Having never built a boat before or done any carpentry I was a little apprehensive about starting, I had spent a lot of time looking at...
I am building a Globe 5.80 in a tent in my back garden and then hopefully racing it across the Atlantic in 2023. This is my build blog for Hull #178, read on and enjoy.
A Globe 5.80 is a fairly small 5.80m (19 foot) self build ocean capable yacht!
The ClassGlobe 5.80 has been initiated by Don McIntyre who recently ran the Golden Globe Race. Working with designer Janusz Maderski they have created a small yacht to be built from Plywood and covered with a layer of fibreglass. Their design is a simple, strong, safe and affordable ocean-going mini racer.
